City gives Swainsboro unit big sendoff

Swansboro , GA -- The City of Swainsboro gave a hero's sendoff to the National Guard engineers on Sunday, September 20 as they boarded buses for their mobilization station of Fort McCoy, WI, prior to their ultimate deployment to Afghanistan.
Swainsboro's 810th is part of the 878th Engineering Battalion of Augusta. For many of these Guardsmen, this will be their second deployment in support of the global war on terror.
"I’m really looking forward to this deployment because of where we're going and the new equipment we have received and been trained on," said Specialist David Holmes of Sandersville.' "This deployment will be different than when I deployed before with the Marines as a truck driver during my first deployment. "The Swainsboro engineers will assist in Operation Phoenix and will work alongside more than 2,000 members of Georgia's 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team currently serving in Afghanistan
